Will Grayson Will Grayson Revised

When I first wrote this blog I wasn't too far into the book Will Grayson Will Grayson by John Green and David Levithan. I was at a part of the book where everything was happening and you didnt know what would come next so I had a lot of questions. The two main characters, both named Will Grayson have completely different lives. I thought that both Wills would meet each other and what I thought was true. They both went to the same place for different reasons and met there. The first Will Grayson, Grayson went there to wait for his friends who were at a concert while the other Will Grayson, Will went there to meet some guy from the internet who turned out not to be real.
Grayson has his own group of friends, the gay-straight alliance kids. From what I’ve read it consists of Tiny, his gay friend, Jane, his straight friend, and Gary, his other gay friend. He has a few other friends from the gay-straight alliance group but they’re not as close. He also isnt that close with his mom because she’s a doctor so she’s always busy. But besides that, he doesn’t tell her anything about his life. He and his friends are really close but he doesn't even tell them about his life.
Will has only a few friends, Maura, Derek, and Simon. He isn’t even that close to them, he’s more of a loner. He is also friends with a guy named Isaac who he met online. Will thinks that he is in love with Isaac, and Isaac feels the same. I can already tell that Will feels like Isaac is the only one who understands him. He and his mom don’t seem to have a good relationship just like the other Will Grayson and his mom. He doesn't think his mom understands him either. Will and his mom have conversations that consist of “Have some breakfast, and where are you going?” which include about one word answers. He doesn’t have a good relationship with his other friends either. I can tell because he won’t give them his Gmail address even though he gave his to Isaac. This showed me that he doesn’t want to talk to them; however, he wants to talk to Isaac. Later in the book you find out Isaac is Will's friend Maura pretending to be a guy named Isaac so that Will would talk to her more often.
Will and Grayson both live in two very different circles with different friends and different problems. In my opinion they don’t have the best lives. I guessed that they would meet and that it would make their lives somehow better. I guessed that they would meet because they are the two main characters of the book who need a resolution. Also if they met, they would have so much to talk about because they have so much in common. They both feel misunderstood, they both have secrets, and they both don’t have many people to turn to.
From what I’ve read, I really like the book. I can connect to both characters in many ways. I can connect to Grayson because sometimes I’m embarrassed by my friends. Also I’m friends with some people that I’m not “close” with but we spend a lot of time together. I can connect to Will because sometimes I like being by myself, some people might call me a loner. Also I have those times when I only want to talk to this one person because only that person gets me. I really like this book because there are two authors writing about the two main characters so you get different writing styles to go with different characters. This gives the reader a better point of view of the two main characters.

Will Grayson Will Grayson

I just started reading Will Grayson Will Grayson by John Green and David Levithan. There are two main characters, both named Will Grayson but they both have completely different lives. They don’t know each other but I’m guessing that they will meet and it will somehow make their lives better.
Will Grayson starts off the book so I’ll call him Grayson. Grayson has his own group of friends, the gay-straight alliance kids. From what I’ve read it consists of Tiny, his gay friend, Jane, his straight friend, and Gary, his other gay friend. He has a few other friends from the gay-straight alliance group but they’re not as close. He doesn’t have a great relationship with his mom because she’s a doctor so she’s always busy. But besides that, he doesn’t tell her anything about his life. He and his friends are really close,
The other Will Grayson, Will has only a few friends, Maura, Derek, and Simon. He isn’t even that close to them, he’s more of a loner. He is also friends with a guy named Isaac who he met online. Will thinks that he is in love with Isaac, and Isaac feels the same. I can already tell that Will feels like Isaac is the only one who understands him. He and his mom don’t seem to have a good relationship like Grayson. Will and his mom have conversations that consist of “Have some breakfast, and where are you going?” which include about one word answers. He doesn’t have a good relationship with his other friends either. I can tell because he won’t give them his Gmail address even though he gave his to Isaac. He doesn’t want to talk to them; however, he wants to talk to Isaac.
Will and Grayson both live in two very different circles with different friends and different problems. In my opinion they don’t have the best lives, but I’m guessing that they will meet and it will make their lives somehow better.  They both are not happy with their lives, if they could pick their friends they would. But they can’t, so they suck it up and keep on living. If they met, they would have so much to talk about because they have so much in common.
The Drummer Boy of Shiloh

In The Drummer Boy of Shiloh by Ray Bradbury the main character, Joby doesn’t believe in himself. He doesn’t think he is important at all in the war. He then meets the General who tells him what a big role he plays in the war. Even though the General is not the main character, he has a big impact on Joby.
Joby is only fourteen and he’s at war. He’s scared and worried not knowing what lies ahead for him. The General knows what lies ahead for himself, the soldiers, and Joby so he helps Joby understand. He also helps him understand the war and the role he plays in it. After Joby met the General he starts seeing things differently. He begins to change and become more confident. Joby is the drummer boy, he leads the soldiers with his drum. The General helps him see that his beat of the drum is what keeps the soldiers pace. That he is the heart of the army. And that Joby is the General of the army if the General’s left behind.
I learned a lot after reading this passage. I learned that everyone has an important role and it’s okay to cry. The General made a big impact on Joby; he made him understand that he is a big part of the war. Since Joby ran away from his family to go to war, the General took a parental role. “He smelled as all fathers should smell, of salt-sweat, tobacco, horse and boot leather, and the earth he walked upon.” He took Joby under his wing and together they created a father-son relationship.
“Here’s a soldier crying before the fight. Good. Get it over. Won’t be time once it all starts.” A soldier said to Joby in the beginning of the story. Later on he meets the General who tells him “you want to cry some more, go on ahead. I did the same last night.” “You sir?” Joby asked. “It’s the truth. Thinking of everything ahead. Both sides figuring the other side will just give up, and soon, and the war done in weeks and us all home. Well, that’s not how it’s going to be. And maybe that’s why I cried.” This showed me that even though he’s a General, the head of the war and a strong leader, he can still cry and admit it. To me it seemed like this conversation is one of the reasons why Joby changed. He realized the General, a leader, gets scared, cries, and shows it, so it’s ok for Joby to do the same.
From this passage, I realized that everyone has an important part in life. You just need to find it. The General helped Joby find his part in the war and helped him feel more confident in his place. Being the drummer boy means that Joby leads the soldiers to war. His beat sets the soldier’s pace. Knowing how important this job is, gives Joby the confidence to turn his drum towards the sky knowing that the next day he will march with his drum and he will be alright.
